K92 Antique Kimono Indigo Padded Cotton Noragi
Jacket.
This is interesting because at a distance, it
appears to be brown. On closer examination you
will see that it is indigo blue with a cross stripe
pattern of a nearly goldenrod color and this is what
produces the illusion of brown coloring. The
pattern is of course woven and there is the
occasional little knot of goldenrod thread present
on the surface as seen in the picture bottom right.
The interior is solid, faded indigo blue cotton and
the garment is padded for winter warmth. Here
are your specs:
K92 Padded Jacket $85.00
Wrist to wrist: 48"
Body Width: 24"
Sleeves taper from 18" to 6 1/2"
Length: 33 1/2"

K91 Antique Kimono Indigo Kasuri Pattern Padded
Noragi.
This is a dyed pattern; what I can't tell you for
sure is if it is a rice paste resist dye or not.
I believe that it is but will not be held to it.
Suffice it to say that this is a truly wonderful old
garment and would be an excellent addition to any
wardrobe or collection of these fine old indigo
pieces. The lining is discolored with age and
has a very coarse feel to it as though it was hand
loomed, perhaps with another fiber besides cotton;
maybe hemp? In any event, it has some small
areas of discoloration that are not very noticeable
in person, probably because of the busy-ness of the
pattern. Here are your specs:
K91 $85.00
•Length: 31"
•Width: 43"
•Sleeve: 9 1/2"
•Body Width: 21"

K89 Antique Kimono Indigo Cross Stripe Kasuri
Noragi.
These woven patterns get more entertaining every
time I see them, or perhaps it is only that they
sometimes confuse the eye! Excellent condition
with a partial white liner at the shoulder and
partial body liner of self pattern fabric, this is
perfect for fall wear, especially with jeans.
Here are your specs:
K89 $65.00
•Length: 42"
•Width: 43"
•Sleeve: 5 1/2-9"
•Body Width: 26"

K86 Antique Shima Woven Cotton Vest, Lined.
This one has a couple areas of staining like the one
shown in the picture bottom right; most likely all
will be fine with a wash! The liner stripe is
completely different from the exterior stripe, which
is woven of purple, green, mauve and greenish gold
with white detailing on the indigo ground.
Excellent condition, the specifics are:
K86 $50.00
Length: 26.5"
Shoulders: 14.5"
Sleeve opening: 12.5"
Body width: 19.5"

K85 Antique Padded Vest, Boro Shima Cotton.
What you see in the picture lower right is an area
that has frayed in the liner from constant friction
of the wearer. That area is located inside the
left armhole. The picture of the liner fabric
lower left, was accidentally rotated; the pattern of
brown/black stripes is vertical, not horizontal same
as the outer shell stripe in black & grey.
Very good condition, it is heavily padded for winter
and the specifics are:
K85 $60.00
Length: 28"
Shoulders: 12"
Sleeve opening: 13.5"
Body width: 19"

K84 Antique Haori Noragi, Boro Indigo Shima Cotton.
As you can see, this one is 'boro' having some very
small holes and places where the cotton batting is
trying to make itself visible. The structural
integrity is not harmed in any way; it is a good
strong jacket that will provide many more years of
use. Shitsuke are still present although not
necessarily intact; I had to cut the threads on the
left collar strip to remove the collection of dried
plant material that had accumulated there!
Specifics are:
K84 $70.00
Length: 33.5"
Wrist to wrist: 47"
Sleeve taper: 13" - 6.5"
Body width: 22.75"

K83 Antique Noragi Haori Heavily Padded Shima
Cotton.
This one still has the shitsuke intact on the woven
pattern of stripes. Color is best represented
by the picture bottom right. The liner is a
medium tone indigo blue. Excellent condition,
specifics are:
K83 $75.00
Length: 36"
Wrist to wrist: 49"
Sleeve taper: 14" - 7"
Body width 22"

K82 Shima Antique Hanten, Slightly Padded, Indigo
Liner.
This hanten didn't care to be photographed; the
picture upper left is pretty close to the appearance
at a distance, while the picture upper right and
lower left each attempt to show you the color up
close; neither of them is exactly right, but the
lower left is closer. The ground color is
actually a very dark blue with sort of a
golden/taupe shima woven into it; not quite as
subtle as the picture upper left, but not as brazen
as the picture lower left. This one is lightly
padded; not winter weight padding, but perhaps late
fall. The liner is a medium indigo blue, and
the garment is in terrific condition. It
measures wrist to wrist 50", body width 23", sleeves
taper from 15" to 8 1/2", length is 38". It is
$75.00.

K77 Antique Kimono Noragi Kasuri Jacket, Awesome
Liner.
Let me begin by saying that I will happily keep this
one for myself. It is the only one I have ever
seen with a SILK SHELL. The weave is the same
kasuri
ikat
found in the indigo cotton jackets;
this one in shades of black, bone and a brown that
shades into a deep burgundy in places. The
liner is beyond fabulous with cranes and bamboo
leaves taking up the body, while the sleeves are
lined in an entirely different fabric. A few
tiny holes and mends plus a split in the silk behind
the center neck make it charming enough to be a
keeper, and they do not interfere with the beautiful
presentation of this very dramatic garment. It
measures wrist to wrist 46", body width 20 1/2",
sleeve taper from 10 1/2" to 7", length 32 1/2".
It is $150.00.

K75 Antique Kimono Haori Noragi Indigo Kasuri,
Unused.
This one is starchy-stiff and still has shitsuke,
visible even at the distance of the left photo.
The liner is solid indigo blue cotton, while the
outside is the expected 'tic-tac-toe' woven pattern
of white on indigo. Excellent condition, it
measures wrist to wrist 44", body width 19", sleeves
taper from 9 3/4" to 7", length 26 1/2". It is
$65.00.

K73 Antique Kimono Haori Noragi, Green & Yellow On
Indigo.
This one just about refused to be photographed.
It is really a very interesting garment having
green, yellow, white and a very subtle, nearly rosy
color that is visible in the picture lower left.
It still has shitsuke and the cotton is slightly
coarse to the touch; perhaps hand-spun? In any
event, the inside band of the sleeve is a completely
different red and indigo ikat and the whole garment
is in very good shape. It measures wrist to
wrist 49", body width 23", sleeves taper from 12
1/2" to 6 1/4", length 34". It is $65.00.
 .jpg)
K68 Antique Kimono Noragi Indigo Cotton Shima.
This one has only the shoulder liner, and there is
slight color transfer there from the indigo shell.
This is a simple shima, or stripe in white on the
indigo ground. The sleeves are a bit more
geometric, rather than curved on this one. It
is soft from washing and a very comfortable piece.
Excellent condition, it measures wrist to wrist 48
1/2", body width 24", sleeves taper from 12" to 7",
length is 28". It is $55.00.

K63 Antique Kimono Haori Indigo Ikat Kasuri Cotton
Jacket.
This one is light blue and pink on the indigo
ground, is very soft and has obvious hand stitching
in the liner. The openings at the armpits are
raggedy from the small hems coming undone; stitch it
or leave it alone as you choose; it doesn't hurt a
thing either way. Great condition with a nice
worn-in feel, it measures wrist to wrist 42", body
width 23", sleeves tape from 8 1/2" to 6 1/2",
length is 24". It is $55.00.

K19
Antique Kimono Hitoe
Noragi Woven Cotton
Shima.
Nearly identical to the
exterior shell of the
garment above, this one
is slightly softer and
unlined but for the
cheerful black and white
shoulder liner.
This one has finished
slits at the side seams
and is a perfect summer
garment even on the
hottest days! It
measure wrist to wrist
48", body width 23 1/2",
sleeves taper from 10
1/4" to 6 3/4" and
length is 25 1/2".
It is $65.00.

K18
Antique Kimono Woven Cotton Shima Haori Burgundy.
Stripes of burgundy,
taupe, and light blue
combine here on a black
ground for a more subtle
look up close than at
the distance. The
upper texture of the
cotton is slightly
rough, and is perhaps
blended with another
fiber. The lining
is burgundy solid cotton
and the garment is in
excellent condition.
It measures wrist to
wrist 48", body width is
22", sleeve drop 13" and
length is 34". It
is $65.00. |
