Men's Haori Page 2

SOLD M63 Men's Antique Kimono Haori, Donchou Woven Silk Liner.

A single hand embroidered crest adorns the back of this dark brown silk haori.  The liner is a glorious glossy silk in greenish bronze with a woven picture of temple, bridges, trees and more.  I especially like the copper colored cloud just above and to the right of the circular central frame.  Magnificent garment in wonderful condition, it measures wrist to wrist 52", body width 24", sleeve drop 20 1/2", length 40 3/4".  It is $115.00.

M61 Men's Antique Kimono Haori, Kabuki Actor.

The silk is a dark, charcoal brown; plain and without crest, so this is a casual occasion haori.  The liner is a muted sage green with what appears to be a bottle gourd and a poem in kanji that runs beneath the frame with a painting of a kabuki actor detailed within.  Excellent vintage condition, the garment measures wrist to wrist 52", body width 25", sleeve drop 20", length 40".  It is $95.00.

SOLD M56 Antique Kimono Men's Haori Beautiful Liner.

What a beautiful liner, whether you plan to wear the garment, display it or both!  The deep colors are soothing and restfull, but at the same time they encourage you to look just a little deeper than you might think.  The tree is the central focus with the rider and pagoda being secondary and the deep blues and greens are so much stronger in person than in the pictures.  The crest is pine forest and it is in excellent condition measuring wrist to wrist 50", body width 24", sleeve drop 21" and length 41 3/4".  It is $75.00.

SOLD M55 Antique Kimono Haori, Lion & Butterfly.

This is one that begs to be worn reversed, or at least displayed that way while not in use as a garment.  This one is dull black Tsumugi silk and has no crests as it is a casual haori.  Excellent condition, it measures wrist to wrist 52", body width 24 1/2", sleeve drop 20" and length 40".  Here is what my supplier says about this one:  "Mens haori with a design of the lion. The picture background is plain green. Big lion was depicted near middle of the lining. A lion laid down on the ground and squashed a butterfly by left hand.
It dull black Tsumugi silk cloth. It no family crests and casual occasion Haori. The big lion lining picture make this cloth looks impressive and gorgeous. It light weight an excellent condition cloth.
"  It is $85.00.

SOLD M53 Antique Kimono Haori For Men, Sumi Paint, Himo Ties.

We all know that I prefer Sumi paint over all other lining art on the men's haoris; I like it even better than Donchou.  My supplier called the liner Japanese Cowboy, and I was so intrigued that I told him I wanted it, but to send me a picture so that I could see it in advance of its arrival.  I was both charmed and amused by the man on an ox being considered a cowboy!  In any event, this is black Habutae silk, and the two layers are very light in weight, making this a nice summer silk.  I was also so happy that the haorihimo cords were present; this is becoming more and more rare in the vintage men's garments that are offered for sale.  In excellent condition, it measures wrist to wrist 51", body width 23 1/2", sleeve drop 20" and length 40".  It is $95.00.

SOLD M51 Men's Haori, Donchou Woven Lining, Lion.

This one is breathtaking from every view.  The woven liner features a reclining lion as the centerpiece, and there are a rabbit, a peacock, trees, people, and even a couple of flying phoenix, which are shown in the picture second right.  The whitish area you see in the picture is light reflecting off the surface of the silk.  It measures wrist to wrist 51", body width 24", sleeve drop 20", length 39 1/2".  Here is what my friend says:  "Coloured threads embroidered and made a picture Donchou lining item. Background is glossy gold Habutae silk. Mens haori with a design of the lion. Sitting down lion was depicted in the square frame near middle of the lining. The ancient people and some animals were depicted at back.
It is glossy black Habutae silk and gorgeous Donchou lining Haori. 5 family crests formal occasion cloth. The crest is the wood sorrel, encircled.
"  Magnificent garment, it is $115.00.

SOLD M47 Men's Habutae Silk Haori, Woven Liner, 5 Crests.

This is a truly wonderful piece.  It is the smooth Habutae silk, with 5 crossed hawk feather crests, making it a formal piece.  The liner is woven silk, with what appears to be a gourd vase in gold thread, a house shape with kanji (probably a poem) and a scene where it seems a man is preparing his beast of burden for a trip of some sort.  Measures wrist to wrist 53", body width 26", sleeve drop 21 1/2", length 41".   A lot going on, so wear it reversed at every opportunity!  It is $95.00.

M44 Men's Haori, Donchou, Shadow Crest, Charcoal Brown.

This is the color I refer to as charcoal brown; not black, but very dark brown.  This one has a single hand embroidered crest, shown bottom left.  The liner is woven silk, and very busy from the diamond shape in the center to the various scenery and plant motif.  Excellent condition, it measures:  wrist to wrist 50", body width 24", sleeve drop 20", and length 40".  It is only $75.00.

M43 Man's Habutae Haori, Dawn Liner.

This is a beauty in Habutae silk.  It is five-crested, so considered formal.  The wonderful liner is woven silk, and depicts the mountains with homes nestled between hills and trees, and shows a sailing craft on the water.  Somehow, the time of day represented here feels like dawn to me, rather than mid-day.  Measures wrist to wrist 50 1/2", body width 24 1/4", sleeve drop 20 1/2", length 41". The garment is in wonderful condition, and is $150.00.

M41 Men's Vintage Haori, Woven Liner of Noh Mask.

I have neither explanation or description yet for the 5 matching crests on this Habutae silk garment.  The crest makes me think of an umbrella made of bamboo with no silk covering on it.  The woven liner is awesome, with a Noh mask at the bottom, below the scenery.  The kanji and chop are impressive, too.  Measures wrist to wrist 53", body width 24", sleeve drop 20", length 39".   Fabulous garment, it is $115.00.
