Obi

Red-Orange Fukuro Obi.

Beautiful worn traditionally, equally marvelous as a table runner or window treatment.  Gold and green leaves and grass blades support the pattern of blossoms in delicate pink and blue on this brilliant nearly electric orange background.  The 'blank' space on the patterned side is shorter than average, making this one easy to wear and easy to decorate with.

Fukuro Obi $65.00
Color: Orange-Red, Red-Orange
Size: 31 cm/12.2" x 410cm/161.4"
Condition :Vintage Excellent
Material: Silk

SOLD Nagoya Obi, Pekingese Puppies, Ball & Cord, Red, Black, Gold.

What a spectacularly pretty obi!  I am uncertain as to fabric content, but I am assuming silk because of the intricacy of the weaving; the puppy's hair is so well done that it almost moves on the surface of the obi.  If I have the puppy wrong and it is really a Shih Tzu or something, that's because I have a limited knowledge of any dog weighing less than 60 pounds.  The colors on this are just wonderful; the very black black, very red red, the different tones of gold and the detail colors too.  A must have piece for the collector of the singularly beautiful, this one is in excellent condition and it is yours for $65.00.

Hanhaba Obi, Gold, Purple/Blue, Umbrellas.

This is a sweet piece whether you use it for its intended purpose or as a table runner or window treatment.  One side is entirely a purplish blue with the 'hemp' pattern subtly visible while the reverse is a lovely golden colro with an edge of alternating open and closed Japanese parasols or umbrellas.  Excellent condition, it measures 6" wide and 140" long.  It is $45.00.

Han Haba Obi, Cotton Rag Weave, Red.

A very thin, sturdy but flexible han haba obi in red cotton or perhaps a cotton blend.  The only ornament is the silver banding at the ends.  Excellent condition, it measures 5 5/8" wide and 120" long.  It is $30.00.

Han Haba Obi, Cream With Blue & Gold Hexagons.

I'm not certain of the textile here; it has the feel of a silk/cotton blend.  Gold hexagons detailed with blue alternate along the edge of one side, while the other side is plain cream.  Excellent condition, it measures 6" wide and 133" long.  It is $30.00.

Antique Kimono Nagoya Obi, Black Ro.

Photographing black is generally a nightmare, and it was no different when photographing this obi.  It is Nagoya obi, being 12" wide for one third of its length, 6" wide for the remaining two thirds.  This one is Ro, as you can just make out in the bottom two pictures.  Barely visible in the picture upper right is part of the pattern woven into this banded fabric.  I am uncertain of the textile itself; it could be all silk, but it could also be a blend.  Excellent condition, it is $45.00.

SOLD Antique Kimono Hanhaba Obi, Bright Black Metallic Fans, Double Sided.

What a beautiful obi this is in person!  The entire surface is metallic reflective; a black ground supporting waves in gold and sensu fans of many colors.  The reverse is white with gold fan frames holding flowers and clouds, etc.  I believe it is synthetic; it is in perfect condition and measures 160" long and 6" wide.  It is $45.00.

Antique Kimono Hanhaba Obi, Single Piece Construction.

This is almost like a half width Maru Obi; instead of two narrow pieces sewn together, it is a single piece folded and sewn along one edge.  The strip of color shown in the photo upper left and lower right is actually a light dusty blue, not grey as it appears in the photos.  Excellent condition, it measures 172" long and 6 5/8" wide.  It is $45.00.

Red-Orange Fukuro Obi.

This is a beautiful piece in equally beautiful condition.  A basic woven pattern of gold clouds takes up the usual amount of space, and of course the back is plain.  It measures 12" wide and 162" long.  It is $45.00.

SOLD Teal Nagoya Obi, Woven Flowers.

The flowers close to the bottom edge shown in the picture bottom left are orange in reality, rather than gold as they appear in the photo.  The other colors are correctly represented here, at least on my monitor!  Excellent condition, it measures 11 3/4" x 64" for the wide part, and 5 3/4" x 78" for the narrow part.  It is $35.00.

HO15 Vintage Hanhaba Obi, Kokeshi Dolls.

As we know, 'hanhaba' means "half width", so this obi is 6" wide rather than 12".  It is a more casual obi suitable for yukata kimono or casual occasions.   Each side has its own pattern; hemp leaf on the 'back' side and I think the top side must represent kokeshi dolls in kimono.  In very good vintage condition, it measures about 142" long.  It is cotton on both sides, and there are one or two very negligible smudges that are not readily apparent.  It is $55.00.
